Trust & credibility

Science first. Always.

How we build, what we claim, and what we don't — spelled out in plain language.

At a glance

At a glance

  • AquaCoda supports observation — it does not diagnose.
  • The AI decoder is in development; no automatic behavior detection yet.
  • Welfare, privacy and consent are opt-in and reversible.
  • Method, dataset scope and limits are published with every result.

Our pillars

Six commitments that shape the platform

Scientific caution

AquaCoda supports observation and learning. It does not make veterinary diagnoses or claim unvalidated discoveries as proven facts.

  • Claims are written to be testable and reversible.
  • Community observations are labeled, versioned and reviewable.
  • Uncertainty is published, not just conclusions.

AI transparency

The AI decoder is in development. Future models will depend on labeled observations, expert review, and clear uncertainty statements.

  • Automatic behavior detection is not available yet.
  • Future outputs will always carry confidence and uncertainty.
  • Results will be presented as hypotheses, never diagnoses.

Data privacy

Users choose whether observations remain private, are shared with BettaCoda, or contribute to research.

  • Default visibility is private : you opt in to share.
  • You can delete any observation, and your account, at any time.
  • We never sell personal data or observation media.

Animal welfare

AquaCoda encourages behavioral non-invasive observation and responsible care.

  • No prompts that would push owners to stage stressful scenes.
  • Guidance follows the Five Domains model of animal welfare.
  • No features that gamify aggression or fights.

Citizen science

Community observations can help reveal patterns, but scientific interpretation requires careful validation.

  • Open contribution, open credit.
  • Clear consent when observations are used in research.
  • No leaderboards that reward volume over care.

Research transparency

When BettaCoda or another project produces a result, the method, dataset scope, reviewers and funding are published openly.

  • Advisory scientists are named on each project page.
  • Signal candidates carry a status: proposed, under review, validated, rejected.
  • Reports are published with their limitations clearly stated.

Limits

AI Decoder — in development

Automatic behavior detection is not available yet. AquaCoda is currently collecting labeled Betta observations. These community contributions will support future AI-assisted behavior analysis, presented with confidence and uncertainty — never as diagnoses.

Veterinary disclaimer

If something looks wrong, ask a vet.

AquaCoda is an observation and education platform, not a veterinary service. For persistent signs of illness — clamped fins, appetite loss, abnormal buoyancy, wounds or rapid breathing — please contact an aquatic veterinarian.
